New One Piece Card Game Bans, Trafalgar Law Replaced + Current Banlist

One Piece Card Game OP08 Bans

New bans and unbans for the One Piece Card Game happened in Japan, and shortly after the same was announced for the English version. The new banlist removes some contentious cards and brings some old favorite cards back.

Banned Cards – September 6th, 2024

Two new cards will be banned as of September 6th, 2024 in the English region. The same new bans come into place in Japan and Asia-Pacific a little earlier on September 1st, 2024. The two cards are ST10-001 Trafalgar Law from the ST10 starter deck, and OP03-098 Enies Lobby from OP03.

These bans come into place in the English meta right before OP08 Two Legends is set to release. The Japanese and Asia-Pacific meta has been suffering with the dominance of R/P Trafalgar Law in the heavy Red/Purple meta.

His dominance comes mainly from his ability that allows players to nearly always gain some tempo with straight removal and playing your own character. A big problem has been his use with the upcoming OP08-074 Black Maria.

With her in hand, she can always bring the player back up to the same Don!! value. With Blocker 2000 she’s an easy four-of in every Purple deck. If a law player uses Law’s ability to play her turn 2, the game is hard to lose.

OP03-098 Enies Lobby is a very consistent card for Black decks, and the OP07-079 Rob Lucci Leader card specifically made great use of it.

Trafalgar Law Leader Replacement

In Japan, a replacement for the banned Law leader comes as P-088 Trafalgar Law. Similar to how in the last ban list when Sakazuki was banned, P-076 Sakazuki was offered as a replacement promo.

It’s not confirmed whether this will come to the English game yet, but we assume so.

[Activate: Main] [Once Per Turn] DON!! -3: Send 1 of your 3000 Power or higher characters to the bottom of your deck: Play up to 1 “Heart Pirates” type Character card with a cost of 4 or lower from your hand.

This is a pretty serious nerf that instead targets your characters, but also specifies that only Heart Pirates characters can be played in the second part. This rules out the use of the powerful Black Maria.
